Strong winds, cooler temps on the way to Arizona

A trough of low pressure is set to bring strong winds, colder temperatures and rain and snow chances to Arizona. A storm system is set to move into Arizona from the west, bringing warm temperatures and strong winds across the state. The Valley is expected to warm to 89 degrees this afternoon, marking its warmest day so far this year. A Wind Advisory is in effect in Northwestern Arizona for 25 to 35 mile per hour winds, which could gust to 55 miles per hour. Even stronger winds are expected for Friday, with sustained winds expected to reach 30 to 45 miles per Hour in the high country. Rain chances for the Phoenix metro area are expected to be slim, with a 20 percent chance of light rain Friday evening. Light snow is also expected in high country, with 1 or 2 inches of snow expected above 6,000 feet.

PHOENIX (AZFamily) —Big weather changes are on the horizon as a storm system is set to move into Arizona from the west tomorrow. Expect warm temperatures and gusty conditions today across the state ahead of that trough.

The Valley will warm to 89 degrees this afternoon, marking its warmest day so far this year. Skies will be mostly sunny and winds will pick up to 10 to 20 miles per hour this afternoon.

A Wind Advisory is in effect today in Northwestern Arizona for 25 to 35 mile per hour winds out of the south that could gust to 55 miles per hour.

Even stronger winds are on tap for Friday across the state. The Valley can expect gusts once again to around 30 miles per hour. In the high country, a High Wind Watch is in effect from 11 p.m. Thursday until 11 p.m. Friday for sustained winds of 30 to 45 miles per hour, with gusts that could top out near 60 miles per hour.

Rain chances are fairly slim for the Phoenix metro area with this storm. A few showers are possible as early as the afternoon hours Friday, with a 20 percent chance for light rain Friday evening.

Light snow is expected in the high country with a dusting down to 4,000 feet, and 1 or 2 inches of snow above 6,000 feet. Higher amounts are possible above 7,500 feet.

Colder temperatures arrive with this storm system. The Valley will drop from the upper 80s Thursday to the upper 60s Friday and Saturday. Dry weather is expected in the Valley over the weekend. A warm-up is set to begin Sunday, with mid-70s on Sunday and Monday. Expect mid-80s by next Wednesday.
