Rep. Grijalva was initially being treated for pneumonia when they found the cancer.

TUCSON, Ariz. — U.S. Representative Raúl M. Grijalva revealed on Tuesday that he is being treated for cancer.

Rep. Grijalva initially sought treatment for a cough which was diagnosed as pneumonia. Physicians soon learned that he had cancer.

"This diagnosis has been difficult to process, but I am confident in the vigorous course of treatment that my medical team has developed, and I’ve begun my journey to fight this cancer," Grijalva said in a statement on Tuesday.

Grijalva, a Tucson local who represents Arizona's 7th Congressional District said his office will remain open and their services uninterrupted while he is treated.

“I am grateful to my family, friends and doctors for their support, and I am working hard to get healthy and return to business as usual as soon as I am able," he said. "I appreciate your consideration, well wishes and respect for my family’s privacy during this time. My heart goes out to others struggling with cancer, and I wish everyone strength in their fight.”

Grijalva did not disclose exactly what kind of cancer he was diagnosed with.
