Phoenix flyers, get ready to spread your wings with new budget-friendly options. Frontier Airlines and Breeze Airways – both known for their wallet-friendly fares – are expanding their services from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, giving travelers more destinations without the hefty price tag.

Frontier, a carrier that's been beefing up its presence in Phoenix recently, is set to embark on its first international journey from Sky Harbor starting May 16. The airline will whisk passengers away to Los Cabos, Mexico, on a bi-weekly basis, squaring off with American Airlines and Southwest, both of which also serve up nonstop flights to the popular vacation spot, as reported by ABC15.

Not content with domestic domination, Frontier's latest move includes the addition of a crew base in the desert metropolis, and hot on the heels of a February announcement, it's dishing out direct flights to Missoula, Montana, too. Evidently, Frontier is eager to capture a larger slice of the Phoenix pie, which, according to a recent report from Upgraded Points, is already home to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport – where ticket prices soared above the national average last year yet remained over 56% cheaper roundtrip.

Breeze Airways is swooping in with its announcement: direct service from Phoenix to Norfolk, Virginia, kicking off on October 3. It's a move that offers travelers an exclusive, twice-weekly nonstop lifeline to the East Coast, "With Breeze’s added convenience and affordability, our business model continues to see success in cities across the country like Phoenix," Tom Doxey, the president of Breeze Airways, told The Business Journal.

These airlines subscribe to the ultra-low-cost carrier philosophy: base fares that are easy on the bank account but with extra fees for those perks many travelers take for granted – such as carry-on bags or choosing your seat buddy. Still, for the budget-conscious flyer, the arrival of more of these routes could signal a new horizon for cost-effective travel out of Phoenix.
