Man convicted of shooting, killing girlfriend at north Phoenix apartment

Cecil Noyola, 64, has been convicted of murdering his girlfriend, Jessica Kennedy, in a north Phoenix apartment over three years ago. Police found Kennedy dead inside the apartment on Jan. 5, 2021, after reports of Noyolas acting erratically and acting strangely. Noyol fled Arizona before turning himself in, admitting to the murder weapon and giving it to a friend. He was convicted of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 20.

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man is facing years behind bars after he was convicted of killing his girlfriend at a north Phoenix apartment.
Cecil Noyola, 64, was found guilty this week in the murder of Jessica Kennedy more than three years ago.
“This defendant shot his girlfriend, left her to die, and then did everything possible to avoid being held accountable,” Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in a written statement. “I hope Jessica knows we worked hard over the last three years to get justice for her. To her family and loved ones, I hope this is the start of their journey towards healing.”
Shortly before midnight on Jan. 5, 2021, Phoenix police responded to an apartment complex near 35th Avenue and Bell Road after reports that Noyola had been acting erratically for several days. Inside the apartment, Kennedy was found dead after being shot in the head.
Police were unable to find Noyola or the gun used to kill Kennedy.
Investigators say he fled Arizona only to come back and turn himself in. Noyola also admitted to giving the murder weapon to a friend, which was also recovered.
Noyola was convicted of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. He’s scheduled to be sentenced on May 20.
