Officers responded to the area of 34th Street and McDowell Road, about a multiple vehicle-wreck that included a vehicle on fire and a marked Phoenix police patrol vehicle. An occupant of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead on the scene, and five people were taken to the hospital with injuries that were non life-threatening. A male driver of what appears to be the vehicle at fault fled from the scene and he remains outstanding. Police are looking for the person responsible for a Friday night five-vehicle crash in east Phoenix that killed one person and sent five others, including two officers, to the hospital.

Just after 10 p.m., officers responded to the the area of 34th Street and McDowell Road, about a multiple vehicle-wreck that included a vehicle on fire and a marked Phoenix police patrol vehicle, authorities said. Officers found five vehicles in the crash and several injured people, police said.

An occupant of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

According to police, five people were taken to the hospital with injuries that were non life-threatening, including two Phoenix police officers. One of the officers has been released and another is being treated in stable condition, police added.

A male driver of what appears to be the vehicle at fault fled from the scene, police said, and he remains outstanding. No other description of the suspect was given by police in what they say is an ongoing investigation.
