Heber-Overgaard couple survives suspected tornado as home lifts four feet
A Heber-Overgaard home was lifted four feet off its porch when a suspected tornado swept through the property, flipping trailers and throwing boats. A suspected tornado hit Heber-Overgaard, Arizona, causing severe damage to the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) investigators surveyed three sites in Arizona for possible tornadoes, with Heber Overgaard being one of the affected locations. Margaret Wilkie and Rick Koberna survived a suspected tornado that lifted their entire home off the ground and pulled it away from the porch by about four feet. The storm caused widespread destruction across the backyard, with a trailer flipping and crashing into a tree, and a 14-foot boat being lifted into the air and thrown to the other side of a tree. A team of investigators from the National Weather Services Flagstaff inspected the area to assess the damage and establish a rating for the storm's strength. Some local residents expressed frustration over receiving tornado warning alerts only after the storm had already passed through the area, but officials noted that severe weather events serve as a learning opportunity for officials to survey damage, gather information, and continually improve warning processes. Cleanup efforts are ongoing throughout the area as meteorologists investigate the storm.
