Rock Springs Café: A century-old landmark with the frontier spirit
For travelers heading north on I-17 toward Sunset Point, Rock Springs Café is one of Arizona’s most enduring traditions. Rock Springs Café, a 100-year-old landmark in Arizona, has been a popular destination for pie and community gathering place for over a century. The café was established in 1918 by Ohio transplant Ben Warner, who settled near a natural spring discovered in 1864 by U.S. cavalry troops. The spring supplied water for cavalry livestock and later became the foundation of Warner’s homestead. The cafe became a popular stopping point for ranchers, miners, and early motorists as Phoenix grew and northern Arizona expanded. The pies have since become a tradition, producing thousands of pies each week, with demand surging during the holidays. The current owner, Augie Perry, has owned and operated the café since 2007.
